Self-Pressure Management
Managing your expectations and stress levels are often the greatest challenges of all when trying to conceive. It is only natural to become oversensitive and emotional when something that you really want doesn’t happen easier than you expect it to. You may get upset, frustrated, anxious, sad or feel like a failure and blame yourself when what you need, in actual fact, is to support yourself more than ever.
In our hectic lives, we tend to set ourselves huge goals and expect to achieve them quickly. This mentality is often counter-productive when trying to conceive. Not only does it generate tension and pressure on yourself, your partner and your healthcare team, it takes you into the “fight or flight” mode which affects your hormones negatively. Here I have gathered some useful yet simple tools to help you manage your expectations and stresses in life.
Eating Means Resting
Bombarded by our numerous tasks, we often forget about the needs of our own body; eating on the go or in front of the computer, while watching movies or checking your phone, chatting or arguing at a table. These are all extremely common.
Did you know that, when you eat, your body is designed to enter into the “rest and digest” mode?! This means that, if you honor your body and allow it to enter into this restful space, you will digest your food more efficiently and recharge too. When you eat, the blood redirects itself from the muscles, into the digestive system and gives you a perfect break from stress. This is why some people comfort-eat. I am not encouraging comfort-eating here but offering some tools that can help to manage stress and explore, enjoy and appreciate your body more.
Meditation Techniques
“Is Meditation about sitting still?“
“How can I sit still when I have so much to do and can’t take my mind off my to do list?
“I am so worried about getting pregnant and want to do something to help myself, not just sit and do nothing!“
Not all meditation is about sitting still. There are various forms of it, some of which include movement. Did you know that, for most people, it is much easier to fall into a space of tranquility and create a connection between the body and mind through movement? And did you also know that it is easier to conceive when the mind and body are at peace? These are just some of the reasons to give meditation a try as the results can be extraordinary.
Here you can explore very simple meditation techniques, which you can do anywhere, even at work, when doing your chores or in public transport!
Lifestyle Tips
When thinking about fertility I often imagine a garden. If you throw your seeds into tired, cold, dry and depleted soil, the chances for harvest are minimal, if any. For a seed to sprout, it needs enough warmth, air, water, good quality rested soil etc.
Here in the fertility clinic, we look into your lifestyle and see how you can help yourself increase your fertility. Generally, we look into your daily routine, work, sleep, rest and exercise patterns and aim to restore a healthy balance to ensure you have the best soil necessary to grow your seeds.
