FERTILITY CONDITIONS

Chinese Medicine has the capability to treat cases of several fertility conditions including endometriosis, PCOS, ovarian or uterine cysts, anovulation, hormonal imbalances as well as unexplained infertility and recurrent miscarriages to name but a few.

Chinese Medicine is an observation-based practice and, as such, focuses on different functions and the interactions of physiological systems within the body. Underlying imbalances are common and contribute to many of these issues.

Hormonal imbalances

There are many hormone imbalances that can cause infertility.

FSH are hormones that stimulate the ovaries to produce follicles. High FSH levels can be the cause of symptoms such as infertility, irregular periods, urinary infections, skin irritation, mood swings, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and more. Acupuncture and herbs have been proven to stabilise FSH levels and reduce these symptoms through many case studies and research over the years.

AMH are hormones that reflect the capacity of the ovary to provide eggs. This is called the ovarian reserve. Low AMH levels mean a lower egg count which is more common in women who are at the end of their fertile age. AMH levels can be improved naturally through acupuncture  as well as improving the ovarian reserve and increase the likelihood of pregancy. Women with PCOS naturally produce higher levels of AMH and sometimes have high levels of testosterone which can also be successfully treated with acupuncture.

High prolactin levels can prevent women from ovulating which can result in irregular or infrequent periods. In mild cases women may still be able to ovulate but can have low progesterone levels and a shorter luteal phase after ovulation. Progesterone is a hormone needed for successful egg implantation. Both of these imbalances can be corrected with acupuncture as well.

Male infertility

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can improve one’s emotional well-being, sexual desire and sperm count, motility and morphology. It can also boost the immune system, balance hormones and reduce stress levels.
