PERGNANCY SUPPORT
First Trimester
In the first weeks of pregnancy, babies grow fast and thus demand a lot of energy and nutrients. If you had difficulties becoming pregnant, it is crucial to have regular weekly treatments until you reach your second trimester to prevent a miscarriage and ensure a healthy pregnancy. You may also consider taking Chinese Herbal medicine alongside acupuncture for the same reason.
At this stage, acupuncture and herbs can also help to alleviate morning sickness, indigestion, tiredness, anxiety etc.
Second Trimester
At this stage, acupuncture and herbs could help to relieve common symptoms such as indigestion, heartburn, constipation, bloating, leg cramps, headaches, backache, tiredness and more.
This is the time when it is safe to resume relaxing massages in order to support your body and mind. Your back will start to become vulnerable as your baby grows. If you previously had any issues with your back this is a good time to start going to pregnancy yoga and pilates, as well as doing pelvic floor exercises. Even without prior back pain history, these activities are a good way to minimise the risk of developing these problems.
Third Trimester
During the third trimester it is not uncommon to develop water retention in the ankles and legs, sleep problems, acid reflux, back pain, hip pain, frequent urination, lightheadedness and dizziness. Acupuncture, herbs and massage can help you to address these and other symptoms.
Also, about 4 weeks before your due date you can start preparing your body for labour by having weekly acupuncture. For more information please go to my “Labour induction” page.
